The Ayrshire Maternity Unit has been designed as a new 57 bed facility, providing a fully integrated childbirth unit for the local communities of Ayrshire and Arran.
The Thru-Wall building system from Hanson Structherm was chosen as the most cost effective façade solution to meet the needs of an unusual curved design, offering enhanced build speed and quality.
This Modern Method of Construction (MMC) was an ideal solution for Dawn Construction to complete the building envelope within the original build schedule of 18 weeks. The Thru-Wall panels were applied directly to a prefabricated lightweight steel gauge structure, which was used to accommodate the complex curve design, with a robust breather membrane mechanically fixed to the face of the frame.
The panels are lightweight, easy to handle and simple to cut on site where required.
Once constructed, the system was finished with a layer of insulation and completed with internal plasterboard. This provided a watertight structure to support fast and easy progression of the internal works and building envelope.
The panels were then finished with a traditional white render finish and a small area of cobalt blue above the entrance.
